Our mentorship program at the Entomological Society of America conference is a way for emerging entomologists to connect with more experienced entomologists, in the hopes of keeping people in the entomology community for the long run.

Conferences are places to learn about the newest research, engage with peers and mentors, share your research in a talk or poster, and grow your professional network. By learning and networking, we can grow as people and scientists
As most scientists can attest, attending and navigating research conferences can be quite daunting and a little scary. Knowing the schedules of talks, workshops, and committee meetings can make anyone's head spin. To alleviate some of these new-to-academia jitters, EntoPOC not only funded the conference registration of new EntoPOC recruits (instars) to attend the 2020 Entomological Society of America virtual conference, but also assigned them each a mentor who will guide and assist them throughout the conference. Each mentor was paired with a new instar, both of whom went to research talks together and learned from one another's experiences.
